The beaches of Cahuita call to me.......The serenity is palpable......It really is a piece of heaven on earth......Life is,as it should be.......I am drawn to it, like a moth to a flame......I cant comprehend this magnetic pull that the sea has on me.....It really gives credence( at least in my mind) to the theory that we are all descendents of Atlantians, and ancient Mesopatomians.....For the first time in my life ,I went for a swim in the pouring rain, warm tropical wind blowing over me,and the lukewarm sea water caressing my skin....not a care in the world......it is as if time stands still in this part of the world....this sensation Im experiencing must be the same one that others feel, when they say" I am HOME ",its very comforting.......

Reflections #3

Posted on Oct 19th, 2006 by Karim : soul searcher Karim
This past weekend,I visited a little town called Cahuita and the surrounding area on the caribbean side of Costa Rica, about 4 hrs from SanJose........

Imagine, the warm tropical breeze caressing your skin, the faint odour of the vegetation permeating your nose, the sound of reggae wafting lightly,as you walk along the incredibly serene shoreline.........
Imagine, a 3 street town with unpaved roads, not a building over two stories, all ramshackle, but purpose built.......
Imagine, that you can count all the cars in town on your fingers and toes,a traffic jam involves 4 cars, people use bicycles circa 1950........
Imagine children playing in the street, unsupervised, unmolested by the cares of daily life....
Imagine as you are walking, the smell of Jamaican food cooking in the hearths of small compact homes along the street........
Imagine coconut tree's,banana tree's and mango tree's along the roads you walk........
Imagine the aqua-marine caribbean sea,so gentle and calm that you could just float for hrs in this 28 degree water, kilometeres of beachline with maybe 100 people on it on a busy day.......
Finally,Imagine a place where people greet each other as they walk down the street.......

If you have imagined all of this, than my friend, you have walked the beaches of Cahuita with me................

Reflections....#2

When you leave San Jose and head towards the Pacific, the landscape becomes incredibly beautiful and serene. The surrounding hills and volcanic mountains make one feel like you're stepping into another time,an untouched tropical paradise. It is very lush and the air is so very clean....About three hours out of San Jose, arriving in Manuel Antonio,I felt like I had entered a surfers paradise, with the laid-back atmosphere of any small Californian hamlet on the coast, with the rustic charm from days long past......The beach itself is absolutely idyllic, the water temperature is that of a warm bath, and the crowds are all but non-existant.The beach runs for a few kilometers thoroughly surrounded by thick tropical flora, with the light scent of salt from the sea.......welcome to a beach-bums paradise!....

Reflections on Costa Rica........

Arriving to SanJose, speaking no Spanish,I find retrieving my luggage to be a disorganized affair. As I exit the airport doors, I'm inandated with taxi drivers and baggage handlers vying to carry my bags to a waiting cab 50meters away.....ADVICE- if you know your destination, negotiate your fair before entering the cab...dont stay anywhere near the airport, because they will grossly overcharge you,and in US currency....Research hotels before you come,or Buy a Tico Times and look for advertisements(youll save a bundle).
During your cabride you will come to realize that most drivers are mildly psychotic...ADVICE- pedestrians have absolutely no right of way,so cross streets extremely carefully.
When you come to downtown SJ during the day,you will encounter heavy traffic, and a likeness of any major center. You will see office workers,"suits" with their cellphones glued to there ears, walking furiously through students, tourists, and regular people. Welcome Northamerican capitalism to CR! You dont have to look far,Mcdonalds,Wendys,Burger King,Subway,Quiznos are all at your disposel! American colonialism in the 21st century at its best ! Not unlike weeds, left unfetered in this fertile soil, they will destroy Costarican culture. I dont understand why Multinational companies keep exporting the ill's that are destroying are own( northamerican) societys? Gone are the days where America stood for freedom, democracy, and a beacon/role model for others to emulate......its so sad....America has a new altar,GREED. It is the symbol for all that is wrong, its currency is the devastating human toll, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually........the corruption, injustice and depravity are its newest constututional amendments...BRAVO!...what a world we live in.....to be continued...........

If you have entered the domain of my album, you´ll see the wonderous skies of Manuel Antonio,Costa Rica....It´s absolutely breathtaking......a sight which I would be hard pressed to put into words, that could actually do justice to what I was blessed to see.....
